Personal Color Analysis

Understanding Your Color

These pink circles are actually the exact same color.

Artists know that a color is altered by the color next to it. People see our faces and the colors we wear simultaneously. Notice how the pink circles on the book cover graphic of Understanding Your Color are altered by the colors they are surrounded by. If you were to mask the circles you would see that they are actually both exactly the same. Color has the same striking effect on our complexions. The colors we wear can either flatter our unique color tone, or make us look pale and lifeless. Color is powerful, and fashion icons throughout history have used it’s power to look their most beautiful.

Color creates a powerful impression. In fact, when we look at someone, color is the very first thing we see. Color also lends an emotional response to first impressions, that shape, size, and style cannot. In theatre or the movies, color is used as a tool to make an actor look younger, older, healthy or sick. We have all experienced trying something on, that clashes with our skin tone and instantly makes us appear ruddy or sallow. In contrast, when we wear a color that complements our skin tone, our eyes brighten, we appear to come to life and look healthy and radiant. Stylists in the entertainment industry, use color to slenderize, beautify, dignify, minimize, and otherwise enhance their clients. Learn to use color to your advantage!

Personal color analysis is the process of draping a client with test colors to determine the most flattering colors for her skin tone. You will be able to see the difference for yourself. You will enjoy expanding the range of colors you wear. You will save time and money shopping—never again make costly mistakes that don’t get worn because the color is unflattering. A wonderful added benefit is, that you will find it easy to mix and match since all of the colors in your palate harmonize with each other.

Seasonal Color Analysis

People have always understood the idea of someone looking fabulous in a certain color. However, the notion of wearing “the right colors” as a tool for personal image enhancement came into the spotlight in the early 1980s, most notably because of the book, “Color Me Beautiful” by Carole Jackson. Some people found great success using the seasonal approach. They were “sold for life”.

That’s because their color palette aligned perfectly with a true Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall skin tone. For the significant number of people with skin tone that did not perfectly align with one of the four seasons, however, disappointment resulted when they “had their colors done” and found they didn’t feel good in their colors. It didn’t take long for discerning consumers and color analysts alike to recognize there were inherent limitations in the four seasons approach. Imagine. Even in the heyday of “Color Me Beautiful”, two-thirds of your clients would have walked away dissatisfied. Worse, you would have lost credibility as people walked away wondering why you didn’t do a better job of matching them up to one of the four palettes.

Sci\ART has transformed seasonal color analysis

Kathryn Kalisz, founder and CEO of Sci\ART found this dilemma fascinating. She decided to take on the challenge of uncovering what was missing in the four seasons approach. Through her comprehensive research, her extensive experience as a fine artist, and her seven years working full-time as one of four master colorists for renowned artist and color standards expert Munsell during a period when every example of every color had to be produced for use by industry for color matching purposes, she knew that virtually two-thirds of humanity has skin tones that are neutral. This means they fall between warm and cool, and more importantly, they fall outside the four seasonal palettes. From this robust frame of reference, – along with her exceptionally gifted eye as evidenced by her 100% accurate color vision when tested by Munsell – Kathryn devised the Twelve-Tone Color System™. It is the ultimate extension of the seasonal color approach.

We use the state of the art Sci\ART Twelve Tone System in a controlled environment, under full spectrum lighting in order to provide our client’s with the most precise personal color analysis available on the market today.

Accuracy is the linchpin of the Sci\Art system

The Twelve-Tone Color System is a comprehensively researched, well-defined approach to personal color analysis. Using the four seasons approach as its touchstone, it is a system that provides four valuable advantages:

  • Twelve Unique Color Tones - for each of twelve identifiable skin tones, there are twelve mutually exclusive color palettes – no overlap, no confusion, and no “cheat” colors. You will know exactly which colors are right for you, and which colors are not, making shopping easier.
  • Distinctive, Identifiable Hues - Kathryn’s system is based on a scientific approach to color. This means the selection of hues in each of the twelve tones can be validated in terms of their respective position in three dimensional color space. More importantly, it means this is a true color system – one that is explainable, NOT subjective.
  • 64 Hues in each Palette - each of the twelve tones spans a full spectrum of hues, offers versatility. Most palettes provide no more than 35-40 hues, while this system, you immediately come away a wide selection of colors.
  • A World Community of Color Tones - the twelve color tones devised by Kathryn make the results of personal color analysis three times more precise. They beautifully encompass the full range of skin tones found in all races and nationalities.
